ExCPT Study Guide

The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) is administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The exam assesses the knowledge and abilities needed to perform pharmacy technician work. By passing the ExCPT, pharmacy technicians are nationally accredited and receive the title of a Certified Pharmacy Technician, or CPhT.

To schedule a test, you must first get authorization from the NHA showing that you have met all of the prequalifications. All candidates must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency (e.g., GED). The NHA also requires either formal training or experience as a pharmacy technician. You can take the exam if

1.    you have completed a pharmacy technician training program within the last five years;

OR

2.    you have one year of work experience with at least 1,200 hours of supervised pharmacy-related work within the last three years.

When you schedule your exam, you will have to attest that you meet the eligibility requirements.

The ExCPT is a computer-generated multiple-choice test that contains 100 scored questions and twenty unscored, pretest questions.

You will have two hours and ten minutes to complete the exam.
